On March 26, 2011, there will be another Vintage Car Rally in Spain, the cars start in Barcelona and race 45 km to Sitges. Some people might think it is just another old cars show but this is one of the most important events of Sitges during the winter period. People from all over the world are attending and it is always a big happening with a lot of visitors.The conditions to enter the rally are very simple, the car must be made before 1924 and privately owned. Over 80 cars are joining the race every year, they range from Chrysler to Ford to Mercedes or Citroën. Even a Rolls Royce from 1923 and a Clement Bayard from 1906 will participate.
The first day, the day before the rally, the cars can be viewed in Parc de la Ciutadella close to the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona. The cars will all be displayed here in a vintage cars show, so it is a great opportunity for car lovers to get close to their favorite vintage car.
The second day is the actual race, the cars will depart from Sant Jaume and go towards the Rambla en Plaza Catalunya. From here they will drive to L’Hospitalet de Llobregat followed by Cornellà de Llobregat. The tour goes over the river besides Sant Boi de Llobregat to Viladecans, Gavà and Castelldefels. Finally they drive a long distance besides the coast towards their ending point Sitges. In Sitges they will give a tour through the centre and at the end of the day they go to Luncheon for the awards ceremony at the Design Centre of Sitges, afterwards the cars will be displayed at Plaza de la Fragata.
The third day the cars are displayed at Terramar (Sant Pere de Ribes) before they will leave to the wine cellars at Pere Ventura de Sant Sadurní d’Anoia.
The winner of the race will not only be chosen depending the time taken over the track but also points can be earned with the looks of the car and the costumes of the driver and passengers. Whole Sitges goes back in time with the cars and costumes. Therefore it promises to be a big event with every year thousands of people visiting.
