Sitges 2010, The Fantastic International Film Festival of Catalonia, was presented this morning at the Palau Marc in Barcelona. There the center lines of the film festival where showed. Gabi Serrano, the Councilor for Culture of Sitges said: ¨this is currently the biggest event of the year that’s held in Sitges because of its impact, atmosphere and interest from all over the cinema world. ".
EAlmost two days after the start of the Festival, the ticket sales forecasts are very optimistic. Compared to the previous days of the festival in 2009, more tickets were sold in the same days of the festival of 2010. That’s why there is a positive tendency to exceed the record of the number of tickets sold last year, to 60,000.
A fact that could help would be the return of the "Train Rider" that will leave the station of Sitges at 1'30h am. The selected programming, includes the presence of the most anticipated fantasy and horror films of the "vintage 2010". In addition to the actors and actresses who star in national movies, the actor Vincent Cassel will receive the Honorary Award of the Festival. He has starred in two movies, who were presented in the previous festival, “The Pact of Wolves” and “Irreversible”. Actress Rebecca de Mornay, very famous for the movie “The hand that rocks the cradle” and “the time machine” will receive recognition on closing day as well, coinciding with the presentation of the movie “Mothers Day”. Other names of fantasy filmmakers that will receive recognition are Roger Corman, Joe Dante and Tom Savini.
The festival will begin Thursday at 19h with the anticipated film "Julia's Eyes," directed by Guillem Morales. Hollywoods actress Belen Rueda, who received many awards in the film "The Orphanage" will also be presented at the festival.
The Official Section will offer a repertoire that highlights the diversity of nationalities (Bulgaria, Japan, France, Sweden, Uruguay ,...) they take into account the influence of the new South American cinema, the revival of Eastern cinema and the mixture of supernatural horror exorcism, Vampires, mutants, with more terror and extreme violence.
In Section New Visions, they are exploring new territories of storytelling, emphasizing both thematic and formal aspects of films that are an outlook on a disturbing premonition of the time to come.
The Sitges Zombie Walk of 2010 will offer another repertoire this year with a new route. The kick off will be the 9th of October next to the Miramar building. After the Zombie parade there will be a beach party, and for the moviegoers a new Zombie marathon in the Retiro Cinema..
