Located just between Barcelona and Tarragona, close to Sitges, lies the Penedes; the land of wine and green valleys, also known as the “cava country”, due to being the biggest and best producer of Cava (Spanish champagne). At the Penedes you can also find aromatic white wines with a fresh aroma and rosé and red wine with a full body and a rich flavour.
The landscape of the region is also dominated by vineyards; it is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the whole of Europe. The hills of Alt Penedes can be the destination for a wine excursion, where you can enjoy exclusive visits to the vineyards and cellars of small wine and cava producers and taste the highest quality of wines.
The Penedès is a fantastic and diverse region, there are various guided tours and wine routs offered to discover this area. The bicycle is a great way to get around Southern Catalonia, follow scenic roads, quiet country lanes and ancient pilgrim routes to visit villages, castles, restaurants and small family cavas. You could also explore the most scenic corners by foot. There are various hiking tours available to see a lot of interesting places in this region with a rich cultural and architectural heritage.
To see the Penedes you should consider staying in Sitges. A small beach village by the area of the Garraf Natural Park. Check out the Hotel San Sebastian Playa.
