Sitges is a city with a rich cultural heritage and with lots of beautiful sights. It is a former fishing village that has attracted artist and intellectuals for centuries. The city has magnificent old and narrow streets in its center which look like an open-air museum. However if you visit Sitges you should consider visiting one of its museums. There are 3 important museums that you must have seen during your weekend in Sitges.
The first one is The Cau Ferrat Museum, the former home and art studio of the Catalan painter Santiago Rusiñol, where Picasso and Miró often summered. The house of Rusiñol used to be a meeting place for artists. Nowadays there is on the first floor an exhibition of Rusiñol´s personal collection of modernist paintings and drawings and his forged iron objects collection. On the ground floor you can still see the residence of Santiago Rusiñol. You can walk through his dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and studio which all look still the same as in the old days.
Across the street of The Cau Ferrat museum is the Maricel Museu. It is located in an old hospital from the 14th century which is turned to a modernist style by the artist Miguel Utrillo. You will find paintings and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries in the museum.
The third Museum is the Can Llopis Romantic Museum. It is located in a neoclassic-style building, with a very sober exterior decoration. The collection of the museum represents the social life of the people in the 19th century. It reflects the customs, manners and the way of living of a traditional Catalan wealthy family of the modernism in that period, therefore you must have see this museum.
Hotel San Sebastiaan Playa is located just two streets away from The Cau Ferrat and The Maricel Museum. Book your hotel right now and visit one of Sitges museums.
